Whole Bunch of Babies

Well, I'm finally home again. As you can see I did take a lot of photos, just never got around to getting them on here. We've had a super calving season, other than that 1 C-section, we've only assisted a handful of calves. Lost 3 right off the bat, but things have gone well since. Couldn't have asked for nicer weather.

This is probably one of my very favorite heifers. Her mama is a purebred Shorthorn we bought last fall. Sired by a RA bull.

A 2 year old heifer with RA sired calf, all our 2 year olds are bred Red Angus.

This old girl is 11 years old and it looks like she's going to raise another good one. Calf is out of a HH bull.

A calf out of a 2 year old. We had to give his mama a bit of help, and then had to give him a hand. He was born curved to the right, had a hard time finding his balance. But mama was really good, she just stood still, loose, in the stall while I worked with them.

I was wrong, this 2 year old was bred Hereford, it was an accident, but she had baby by herself fortuneately.

She's mostly Angus, but there must be a little longhorn in her genetics way back.

That 84 calf sure is a cutey with the flecks and spots.

Great pictures! I think we are all glad you are back and posting your good pics. I am glad your calving got better. From the looks of it you are going to have a fun summer watching the "kids" run and play. With mine one calf will take off running around the pasture and all of a sudden he has the rest of them running hard right behind! You will have a colorful bunch doing laps in your pastures.

What a nice group of cows and calves. Good to see new life coming with spring. Makes getting through the long winter seem worthwhile. Thank you.

What do you think is in the wood pile when you get a red coat with some black accents, mostly in the ears?

Similar to but a little darker than the #77 cow above. A small purchased red heifer (re named Ho) raising a big (Holstein looking) calf...

Stocker Steve, you might have some Tarentaise influence. Does she look anything like this?

Could be just Red Angus, sometimes you will get one that has darker accents, or could be Tarentaise like MO_cows said. Need to see pics to make a better guesstimate.....

She's probably 5/8 Hereford, and the rest Angus. Just the way she came out....


And thanks, everyone else for the comments. It is good to be back home, I have 1 treatment left next week, then don't see a Dr again til the end of June!! Now I'm working on remembering who has what calf.....

That's when I go back for a 5th (hopefully clear PET ) as well! Don't feel bad, I have 20 black calves running around in the pastures behind my house - and I have no idea who any of them are for. Every previous year I tagged at birth, but didn't have the strength to do it this past winter. Oh well!

Well, good luck to you!! I have to remember 130 babies, but ours are all tagged, DH did that, so I have a head start. I know how you were feeling, and the most important part is that the calves were born fine, they sure don't care if they have an ear tag ;-)
