I saw this buck with a doe this morning. He paid no attention to me at all. He is at least a 13 pointer. I saw a similar buck last year, but he was nowhere near as wide as this one. I hope that I will be able to find one of his sheds this spring.

I was driving through the pasture when I saw him; I did not have a gun, only a camera. As much as I would like to shoot this buck, I would rather have him pass on his genetics for a while and use a tag on a deer that needs to be culled from the gene pool.

That is a great plan. In cattle we strive to have better cattle each year and cull the ones that dont make the cut. In deer we leave the junk and kill the good genetics.

Yea I get that but.....unless your place is high fenced you may never see him again! Why wouldn't you have a gun if your concerned about culling the weak ones? You might not see them again either.. By the way I enjoy showing your cattle to friends of mine. They are allways impressed with your " Charlois" :). Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for sharing around here!

That is a great plan. In cattle we strive to have better cattle each year and cull the ones that dont make the cut. In deer we leave the junk and kill the good genetics.

I don't like to deer hunt but now we have so many I'm to the point of killing everyone possible, not just does.
I've been telling the people hunting on and around me to kill does and they aren't. Now I'm telling them I'm shooting anything. Even if it a buck that will turn into a good one, if it's brown it's down.
That really gets them going but I really don't care, I've hit two with my truck this year and have countless acres eaten up by them.
 
Come on Jed, all their eating is profit. We all should feed someone else's animals for free. I'm not big into Farm Subsidies. But if the state claims ownership of the deer, they should have to pay the farmers for feed bill.
 
Thanks Kingfisher. I am glad to be a member on these boards. There is definitely no guarantee that I will see him again. After looking through the pictures that I took last year while I was pig hunting, I saw this buck twice. He was a large 12 point last year. It seems like some deer really move around throughout the years, while some remain in the same vicinity for a long time. There have been 9 and 10 points that I have been looking for from previous years, but I never see them again. It might be because I do not recognize them, they were shot, or they moved on. However, we have one particular buck that has palmate antlers. I have seen him for three consecutive years in the same pasture, walking on the same game trail.

All the nice young bucks showing up on my game camera are gone. Guess neighbor's hunters who leases his place have cleaned them out. Haven't seen one on the camera since right after the season opened. Bad part is that in my mind only one of them was a shooter...all others were not wide enough. Had over 1500 pics. this weekend and only 3-4 small bucks and an ugly looking spike.
