White calf losing hair

I have a 1 month old almost all white holstein calf that has lost patches of hair on his neck and legs.
exposed skin is not red or inflamed but dry and a little flaky. other wise he seems fine, Any Ideas about why he is losing his hair.

Losing hair, or losing hide too? I'd recommend letting your vet have a look at him as it could be anything including fungi, light sensitivity (I can't seem to correctly spell the real name for that), an allergic reaction, or lice.

You're thinking photosensitivity, MM. Could also be a fever.

Seems to be just the hair, the exposed hide is smooth with just a few dry flakes. It located on his neck and shoulder area along with a couple of small spots on his legs. I am not having any problem with any of the other calves.

Same thing happened to me with a bottle calf I had. About a month ago he did the same thing yours did patches of hair on his neck back and legs with flaky skin, I originally thought that the flies got ahold of him. The hair started to grow back and he had been acting funny since then, long story short I looked out my window this morning and he was down. I'm not saying your calf is gonna die but it may be worth your while to check into it a little more.

Yep, thanks Randi. Some days I just can't seem to spell correctly to save my life, and "photosensitivity" was just not looking right. :P
