None. Please some one fill me in. If you are raising for terminals who cares about he milk. As long as the cow can raise an accepatable calve. If you are in the seed stock secment there are always lines that will have better milk. Why do we need to have dairy in if milk is not the product produced. I see week after week 1/2 bloods and more at auctions selling well below average. Might as well use Longhorn and get the calving ease as well as disease resistance.

I voted Guernsey, but that's only because they're the breed I would want if I were to raise dairy animals. Perhaps Ayrshire, if I knew more about them. Not sure if I'd want to breed them into the herd unless I really needed the milk production.

Breed them all Black angus not the other black breeds even though they are mostly black angus also.Horned Hereford would be my second choice.

i have a group of cows that i raised out of the jersey dairy herd we used to have. we used a black bull, a hereford bull, and a limousine bull at various times on those jersey cows. i then kept the heifers out of those cows which made them 1/4 jersey and a few were 1/4 holstein. I breed them to a charlois bull and end up with 700 lb yellow charlois cross calves that sell right off the cow with no weaning and top the market. I love to have a percentage dairy (preferably holstein or Jersey) to raise my calves because of the milk production. If you have half blood dairy you will have problems with the cows suckling down too bad and also the udders get too big and break down at 6 or 7 years old instead of lasting 12-15 years. My cows average around 1000 lbs, so they arent too big to handle with ease

Why..why..why?? Why in the world would anybody cross a milk cow with a real cow?? Weve got cattle in ever breed in the country that give however much milk you want. Just look at some of the epds for milk...theres some socalled maternal cattle out there that cant even support therselves on the country they live in now because of selection for milk...to much milk...just one more price we pay because of the numbers chasing games breeddrs play. Some of these guys dont think about the fact that a cow can never be a good momma cow if she starves to death doing it!! Wake up people!!!


And that dont even count for the fact that dairy blood is awful hard to hide in a calf crop...your going to have some spots crop up from time to time...nobody wants that spotted junk unless its awful cheap. You might get by witha Swiss brown cow for her solid color..long as you dont mind running #1600 cows. Listen close...if your having trouble with milk in your cows you need to be looking for theright beef cows..not the right milk cow to cross with

I would go with Angus Bull, Charolais Bull or maybe even a Brangus Bull.

Right now at the dairy I work at we cross our holstein cows and heifers that don't catch by AI get bred to a Limousin bull. The cross works good, puts some muscle and hip into the holstein. But if you want a really good dairy cross try Jersey/Limousin.

Yak is lighter tasting than beef with good cholesterol.

I raise safer yak breeding stock.
