IMG_1050.jpegIMG_1056.jpegWe have been struggling with getting hay cut, getting a window to get it cut raked and baled has been a challenge. We cut one field a few weeks ago but haven't had another opportunity since. I told the boss I had a gut feeling that we were going to be able to get a small field up if we cut on Wednesday. He said your nuts but I insisted that I thought we could do it. Fast forward to today we were able to get it finished without as much as a sprinkle. Our son Jacob told me I better head to a casino! The boss told our farm hand I think we're crazy cutting it but if by some miracle it doesn't rain I will never hear the end of it ( which I confess is 100% true) on the other hand had it got wet I'm sure the boss would have reminded me he didn't think we had a chance in the world of getting it in. Yesterday I sure thought I would be hearing it I looked at local radar and the dot that showed the farm location was literally surrounded by dark green the sky was dark and the wind was blowing you could literally smell the rain. I thought it's all over but the told you so. My granddaughter said oh GG your toast the good Lord sure did answer my prayers! Hopefully we can get more hay up in the next couple of weeks.

We cut Thursday and after about 2-3 acres cut it rained so hard couldn’t see the end of the field . Oh well I don’t mind it getting wet then , just after it’s raked and ready to bale ! It’s been a challenge this summer, but I’ll take the rain over the drought.

I wore rain gear while raking hay once in an open station tractor. But we weren't making dry hay. We were making haylage. It already had a pretty good wilt. Raking shock off most of the rain. The guy baling said don't get very far ahead of me.
 
Got up to a drizzle this am , but 7 miles away at the hay field it hasn’t rained. Planning on raking and baling after lunch . Crazy weather, the rain is coming east to west . Some kind of front off the east coast.

Bearing on my baler went out Saturday afternoon. Of course right when I can’t get parts for a few days. Borrowed a baler Sunday to try and get the hay up. Only rolled about 20 bales that day due to misty rain every few hours. Went to finish baling Monday before the rain showed up and after about 40 bales a bearing on that baler goes out. About 8 bales left in the field to roll and rain 2 hrs out. Couldn’t locate any bearings in time. This has been a stressful year for hay. Never seen it this wet this late in the year.

That looks like some good quality hay. Don’t look like a mixed grass and like it’s been sprayed and keep clean ? What kind of grass is it ?
