You fellows seem to know where everything is.........where can we study the forecast for rain? Both long term and short term. It is so crucial to what we/you do I was curious to what the weather liars er experts expect in specific areas in the years to come. How do you fellows manage your water? I have a friend from Louisiana that just does not understand why more folks here do not irrigate. I know water management and rain forecasts could easily be two distinct topics but they might command more respect in the years to come for some of us I suppose. What do you fellows think or know about the subject of water. Thanks in advance.
 
Water is starting to be a hot topic in Central Texas . With the population growth and the 50 year forecast for growth in Texas it seems like the demand will be more than the supply. The state will be passing new legislation concerning water rights, property owners need to stay aware of what is happening or they will loose the ownership of the water under their land. Research which farm organizations and politicians support the land owner versus the cities and support them. San Antonio is looking for water 100 miles east of them in ranching country in the Carrizo Wilcox aquifer. In South Tx where it is a oil drilling boom it takes 3 million gallons of water to complete an well, the carrizo wilcox aquifer has been lowered 500 ft in the last several years.
 
Seems like I never get what I wish for, so for a New Years resolution, I desided that I'm going to wish for the opposite of what I really want and see how that works.
 
We lost ownership of our water around 1994. Legislatures ammended a seemingly small phrase in a law. Not many took notice of it but I thought I smelled a rat. Now all irrigation systems are supposed to have meters on them to "monitor" the use. I'm sure in a few years there will be a charge for using the state's water. Probably wouldn't be as much concern today had Tennessee not stolen one of our rivers. ;-)
 
It is sooo dry here in CenTex...I spit on the ground the other day and heard a faint "thank you" from the dirt.

We are really dry here too and if you look at the dought index I am in the red in Tennessee. We had a real dry summer and have had about 3 rains since of around an inch and that is it. If this goes into the spring you can forget it here. This summer was drier than I have seen it.
