Hello round the fire- What age should I take my October calves from their mommas? The are eating grass, hay and range pellets, but still nursing. I don't have scales so I can't base it on weight. They are growing well and are healthy and frisky. Also, one is a registred angus bull calf. When is it too late to decide to keep him a bull or castrate him for the freezer? He looks good on paper. How does one know?? Thanks for the help. (BTW I did swerch the arcives but did not find an answer)

Tradtioanly calves are weaned at or aorund 205 days. That's a standard but I have no idea how that came to be.
A lot depends on the forage availability, cows bred back, marketing, etc. There is no one size fits all.
