We have a lot of wild berry bushes in some fence lines, but I'd like to start a blackberry patch. When is a good time to transplant and should I cut them back any? Will they produce this coming summer? Help, I'm a newby on this topic!!! (I live in Missouri) :D
You can transplant them right now or any time this winter, and yes you will want to prune them back heavily. Rather than use wild black berries I would take a look at some of the tame thornless varieties. My grandfather raised these for years and the yield will be much better and many of them produce much bigger berries.
