When should I spray?

I know it's probably best to spray for weeds in the spring when they are just starting to grow, but would now be a good time to spray something like 2 4 D? We just built our house and we left about a 200 foot of pasture in the front. (from the yard fence to the proprty fence) I was wanting to get that section really cleaned up because you look over the weeds and grass to see the house.

There is a lot of good coastal in there but also has a fair amount of weeds. Nothing looks better than a sollid stand of green coastal in my opinion,

Just wondering if spraying now would be woth it or a waste?

I will have the entire place sprayed come spring but thought by doing that section now it might be better for it.

It would be a waste of money this time of year. Bushhog it down and spray in the spring. The growing season is all but over with for this year.

Depends on what you're after. And what you're gonna spray with. The 2,4-D will get a lot of your cool season weeds that have already germinated. Grazon will give you a good residual, though. I took this picture of a hay meadow in March. The yellow flowers are a winter annual. I had sprayed a strip down the fencerow and back with Grazon the previous September. Six months before the picture was taken. Even today, I can still see the effects on some of the warm season weeds like Bitterweed and Goatweed. There aren't any in that strip on the ends.

I had fine crop of those silly flowers. I put out 2-4D maybe around June. It got them all. Now I have some spots of some other crud I have to figure out what it is.

I was wanting to spray the silverleaf nighshade and goatweed in September, but with the drought, I figured it would be a waste of time and money. We need rain to wash it in.

I guess it doesn't matter now. The cows are so hungry they ate the tops of the goatweed. The nightshade died from lack of water.
