Question for our next year hay is. . I see where people put cows on hi mag before turning them into a grazing wheat field due to bloat. . What about wheat hay? Do we need to do the same thing with the hi mag minerals prior to giving them this hay?

The hi-mag is not for bloat it is for the lack of mag and other minerals in young fast growing grass. In hay that is not usually an issue. But I us hi-mag mineral from about now in the fall until early summer nest year. Sometimes with good rain in the fall you can have the same issues.

No problems with wheat hay other than making sure it is cut on time and allowed plenty of time to dry. I've seen quite a bit either rot or smoke like a campfire because moisture was too high when baled.

My only concern with wheat hay is the possibility of the awns causing irritation in the mouth. Almost as bad as barley hay.

Got it cut before the awns. And we usually just put our cows on hi mag before lush grass in the spring. That's why i was wondering. Fed a roll of our sudax today that the cows were trying to get at in the barn. . Middle molded from the rain that got on it before baling and baled to soon. .oh well the cows still after it. Crazy animals
