I want everyones opinion on this guy. Do you think that he is herd bull quality or should i send him to the auction? This pic was at about 6 months.

Sure would get a cold talleywhacker plowing snow up here. Alot of leather in the brisket. Can't see his loin very well in the pic but he looks like he has good heart girth.

the straight hocks would be a disqualification without even looking further, but he has a nice deep chest.

The hocks are where the hind legs bend forward, for a lack of a better description. Too straight in the hocks are the same as being post legged.

Why would it be a disqualification? With maturity a post legged bull will tend to put too much weight on the cow he is serving. This is a real problem when the mature bull is serving heifers or old cows. Also when the bull gives his final thrust just before ejaculation the straight hocks tends to hyperextend causing injuries and breakdown to bulls in the breeding season. This usually happens as the bull grows older.

Post leggedness is therefore a fault worth culling for especially in breeding bulls.

don't know about montgomery. but its colder than a well diggers ass here in the north. spring aint gonna get here soon enough

40'S here in LA too and the wind is blowing about 30mph and it feels like 20
 
When are you boys gonna learn. That ain't cold that's balmy. Otherwise known as sweater weather. Now to warm your innards up go take swig of your good ol moonshine. :P :P
