In case anybody was wondering what the rest of the probe looks like. Those three metal strips go on the underside when inserted and very mild electricity is applied to stimulate the bull's prostate. involuntarily causing him to ejaculate.

Haven't had a bull yet that bellowed... they all seem to just go with it... this is not to "collect" a bull with all sorts of protocols for cleanliness and all that... it is just to get them to ejaculate enough in a cup to check for sperm motility, quality etc... They do it on dairy bulls to "clean the pipes also"... and to check for quality before going through the trouble of collecting... then it is also rechecked... before being frozen or sorted and then frozen.

How'd they do? Our 7 did pretty good a few weeks ago.... Favorite old bull passed but not as good as he had been. He is with a few favorite cows, hoping for a few more heifers... and one other older bull that is adequate that will get sold after this season also... but since they don't have alot of cows at either place they should do fine... Need to replace them with at least one, that is a plus weight bull. Do not need any easy calving bulls... but a few to put some good sized calves on the ground to replace these 2. We have 2 that are not going to be used this spring, always keep one or 2 extras in case someone gets injured. Since we have many small pastures we run 1 bull at each place. And we have 1 or 2 neighbors that have leased a bull in the past that don't want to own a bull for themselves for only 10-20 cows... and don't have a place to put them after breeding season.

We lost 3 for sure, will see what the count brings.
