What to do about a hernia

I have a heifer that's about 26 months. She's due to calve any day now. Today I noticed that she now has an umbilical hernia.

I'm sure some of y'all have encountered this situation. Should I just wait and see or should I get her to the Vet ASAP?

She seems to still be eating.

I guess I'm not 100% sure that it's a hernia but I'll keep an eye on it. I don't think it's an abscess. Could be edema I guess.
 
Umbilical hernias are common and generally not a major concern, so long as it's not getting bigger and pushing intestines through the whole in the abdominal wall. My guess is it will resolve itself once she delivers.

I watched a vet give calf a shot of rompum and roll her over on her back and stabilize with hat nails. He shoved the hernia back in and took 2 sticks. (Preformed) and banded them to keep hernia It helped up fine for rest of her life. The success rate if u cut them was not good. This was only 30 yrs ago so I'm sure there are many strides better tnan my advice
