What the cat drug in....

Tonight a stray cat shows up at our door. She is very, very thin and hungry. Broke my :heart: ! My daughter gave her dry cat food which she ate so fast I was thinking she might choke. Anyhow, she is very friendly. After she was done eating, I picked her up and was petting her ~ she was purring like crazy. I went to bring her into the house (for only a minute ;-) ). I noticed as I was carrying her in that she smells, so I set her back down and she had runny poop all over her back end (thanks kitty! :roll: ). Needless to say, she had to stay outside. She cried at the window, so I brought her a blanket to lay on. She is there now.

What I am wanting to know ~ how can I help her? I have 2 very healthy males that I do not want to get sick. Could she have a disease that is causing her to have diarrhea? My males are up to date on their shots. I know what NOT to feed her, and I will worm her if she is still there in the morning. What else can I do? Should she not be here? Would feel awful if something happened to the 2 I already have, but cannot imagine ignoring her. She is small, a young cat I think.

Any thoughts on how to help, what might be wrong and if my males are safe? Seems like a lot of writing but I wanted to give all the info. Please save the shooting suggestions. She is a nice, nice kitten.

I am a vet tech and hope i can help. This cat could have diarrhea for hundreds of reasons. We will get to that in a minute, but first and foremost, she could have one of several diseases that could be spread to your cats, like leukemia or feline aids. You should bring her to the vets and have her tested for these diseases, and have her examinied for her diarrea. It could be as simple as change of food, or someone gave her milk, or it could be intestinal parisites, OR it could be cancer. The list goes on and on. Really. Without haveing her looked at by a professional the possibilities are endless. Let us know how it goes.

What can I do to help her for under $200? I don't know if she will be here from one day to the next. If she stays, I will have her spayed and get her shots taken care of. For now I was hoping I could just help her until she decides if she wants us. See?

How could you shoot the little "Angel"? Although that would make her more angelic then feeding her will!

Well if you can't afford the vet fees and testing and she gives the other cats something you will excced your self imposed limit in treating all three and perhaps losing more than one.

Either take total responsibility for the care and maintainence or take total responsibility for managing the problem.

Unwanted feral cats are a problem. Only good thing about coyotes is there are now less feral cats.

Rabies is again approaching epidemic proportions. regular rabies vaccination is necessary.

I sound harsh and I actually like little kitties, but animal ownership comes with a level of responsibility. The cat is there because someone else abdicated that responsibility and dumped it.

When people assume responsibility for an animal large or small, then they are responsible for that life and all that it entails, including manners, management, maintenance and money.

Our disposable society and its carryover attitude toward animals and failure to take responsibilty is what keeps the animal shelters full and keeps so many animals in deplorable conditions with immense suffering. Having an animal becasue it is cute and taking responsibility for that same animal do not necessarily go hand in hand, but they should and this applies to everything from goldfish to Rhinoceris.

I know angie knows that I am not fusing at her but this thread provided me with a forum to preach about a pet peeve. true animal lovers know what I mean. those animal lovers that tie a dog to a tree in the yard 24/7 probably don't have a clue what I mean.

All of my dogs and equines are rescues in one form or another. I live with the hope that they will never have to be rescued from me.
