An 11-year-old boy who was home alone with his 4-year-old sister shot and killed one of two intruders who allegedly broke into the North St. Louis County house. The intruders reportedly broke in through the front door. The gun belonged to the boy's mother who owned it for protection.

The two suspects, both 16, allegedly attempted to enter the house twice before pushing through the front door on the third attempt. When they pushed through the door, the boy picked up his mother's gun and shot the teen.

The 16-year-old died of a lone gunshot wound to the head. The second teen ran from the scene but was later arrested by the police.

According to a new report, however, the 11-year-old may have invited the 16-year-old over to his home. A neighbor, who witnessed the incident from her home across the street, said that it wasn't a break-in despite the boy's claim that it was.

In addition, police found no signs of forced entry on the front door. It is not yet clear as to whether or not the incident was a home invasion.

What do I say about that? To start with, I say that an 11-year old shouldn't have been left home unsupervised in the first place.

bf and rafter I agree... They now have been stating the 11year old called the 16 year old boy over and when he got inside shot him. The other boy that was with the 16yo that got away told police that.

Reminds me of one BIL and his wife. Their 12 year old boy was the only adult in the family
