Honey ran over this snake while fertilizing the pasture Saturday, is it a chicken snake?

Dad said he thought it was a chicken snake but I wasn't for sure if I was describing it well enough.
We also saw 3 spreading adders this weekend too. I liked to ran over myself trying to get away from them, must have been a nest or something. The biggest one was about 3 feet long and as big around as my wrist. When I saw it I was all stooped over going through some brush and it was about 2 ft from me. I threw the chainsaw one way and hi-tailed it the other way. I've never seen one of those buggers before and don't care to see another. That thing scared the be nice out of me when it raised up and spread those wingie things on the sides of it head  I though for sure it was a cobra!![]()
