I must have had a brain fart. I have been able to post a picture to where it shows up on the actual post in the past but for some darn reason I can't seem to get it to work today

Dad said he thought it was a chicken snake but I wasn't for sure if I was describing it well enough.

We also saw 3 spreading adders this weekend too. I liked to ran over myself trying to get away from them, must have been a nest or something. The biggest one was about 3 feet long and as big around as my wrist. When I saw it I was all stooped over going through some brush and it was about 2 ft from me. I threw the chainsaw one way and hi-tailed it the other way. I've never seen one of those buggers before and don't care to see another. That thing scared the crap out of me when it raised up and spread those wingie things on the sides of it head  I though for sure it was a cobra! :D

Looks big to me for a chicken snake. Not to say your dads wrong. To me the only good snake is a dead snake.

Well the one in the pic was about 5 ft long streched out strait, if not a chicken snake then what is it?

Yeah, I know all about that tearing myself up more then absolutely nesessary just to get away from somthing. Dad said something like: They won't hurt you but you'll hurt yourself trying to get away!

years ago when i had a few chickens.. those buggers gave me fits... and they will easily get 5-6' long.. i have killed several at night in the hen house... if anything... the snake in her picture seemed a little thin... other than that it resembled one to me....

sidney... was the underside of that snake whitish, yellowish.. in color? that was the color under the chicken snakes i killed years ago..

also,, if you grab one while he is alive... those buggers put off an odor that is hard to wash off...

It looks like a chicken snake to me too.

We have three or four of them that come and live in the feed room at the barn during spring and summer. Well what it is is 1 female and three males, they range in size from 5 ft to just a little short of 7 ft, apparently the feed room is her mating zone. She has a real pretty red tint to her when she and the males are twining around each other during mating. They don't bother us so we don't bother them. Even mom doesn't mind them as long as she can see exactly where they are.

It was yellowish on the underside. Trust me - I ain't grabbing no snake to see what it smells like so I will have to take your word on that one!

:lol2: yep it was one of those moments... and in the heat of the battle i wasnt about to let that scamp get away so i grabbed him. ;-) my bunch still laughs about that today... it was dark and my son was holding a flashlight for me... but once i grabbed that snake, i was left in the dark... he finally brought me a piece of 2x4 and... in the end, i got my snake ;-)

i figure you have a chicken snake on your hands there and they get pretty rowdy striking at you too.. not poisonous, but will make you hurt yourself getting out of their way in the right circumstances..

Round these here parts a chicken snake is more of a dark blue, gray, white, and black color. The underbelly is white/yellow. I know they are differant colors in differant areas, but it don't look like a chicken snake to me. I agree it could be a coach whip. But even they are more solid colored around here.
