Around the tail. If you scratch it, the scabs come off and there is a small bead of blood that wells up. It has dried some and you can see some of the scabs flaking off. I thought mange but she was treated with the Ivomec injectable. I put a double dose of pour-on parasiticide on her and it has improved 50%. It is swollen into a pouch under tail and above the anal opening.

Nesikep, it may be eczema. Due to an allergy. The skin has a "mangey" appearance but I looked at images of mange and I don't believe that is what this is. The skin and hair on all the other cattle is excellent right now. I have thought she might be allergic to the permethrin I use to control flies.
 
Every now and then we'll see one like that in our Brangus. I think it's a combination of looser hide and skin irritation (ie. flies). Has never caused any real problems that I'm aware of.

I did notice a bit of something similar on the hind end of one of my cows in the corral that's about to calf... though there was no swelling of the tissue, just a bit scabby skin

There is swelling but as Ruth pointed out, this 11 month old heifer is fat. I have her away from the pregnant cows with a couple others on very small pasture but she still gains.
 
it also looks like rain rot or a fungus. you can use use a generic athlete's foot powder, mix a couple of tablespoons in a cup of water and sponge it on the area. I buy the cheap stuff at the Dollar Store.

I will try that. I thought it might be a fungus. Blue had a similar skin condition on his nose. It went away when I treated it with an antifungal. Thanks.
 
They're called worry warts. They pop up sometimes to just make you worry.
Worry Warts come in many different styles. Sometimes tiny scabs, very small spots of missing hair, and even in some cases spots of white hair that seem to appear then disappear.

Spray for biting flies, and in a month you will forget about them,.

You could also do nothing and it would probably go away. It doesn't quite look life threatening!
