I'm going to shamelessly pimp the Gelbvieh breed  :cowboy:

Creates great heifers like this 6 month old that has keeper written all over her. I think she will weigh close to 700 lbs if not over.

Puts butt on a bull like my Atlas 101N clean-up bull...

Nice. The county agent is a pretty young girl and her family raises registered gelbviehs, she has been out to my farm several times helping me solve issues. She thinks they would fit well into my herd. You and 3waycross have got me thinking about it. I like your cattle. Glad you are better.

Nice cattle Buddy!
Thanks 3way. It gets harder and harder to improve each year. The big leaps that I made early on now are small incremental steps. Once the low hanging fruit is picked making headway gets tougher but I keep trying.

Try AI'ing a few cows to a good Gelbvieh bull and see if the results are to your liking. It will give you a direct calf to calf comparison from calves within the same group.

Nice heifer! I have seen butts like that on Angus though! If you want big butts Charolaise or Limousins.
Thanks Huntbooboo. Big butted Angus bulls are out there but these days they are as scarce as hen's teeth. For some reason the big hindquarter has been bred out of many angus herds in favor of the hatchet a$$ looking ones. I really like Limo's too but Gelbvieh have been really working for me. In my commercial herd of mostly angus cows the Gelb has really made nice improvements.

HOSS, I pass the Boyd farm everyday. If I go through Shannon I pass their Hereford operation. If I go through Mayslick, I pass their Angus operation. I do notice they mix it up some. They also have another Angus operation on US 68. The angus bulls in their pastures are well muscled and big rumps. The trend is to select genetics to provide more muscle and full rumps. That is the catch line in the semen sales advertisements. I think what ALACOWMAN said is in line with what is going on everywhere not just Alabama. Those older hatchet butt genetics are being avoided like the plague here.

The Rocking P folks who mainly cover their angus cows with Simmental Bulls recently brought in an angus bull that provides those genes.

Oh I understood what ALACOWMAN said and I agree with him. I see big butted angus bulls in sale catalogs, pictures, on CT, and in the pastures of some purebred breeders but I don't see them very often in commercial herds in my area. I still see plenty of the hatchet butt bulls.......many more than there should be with as many good breeders there are within 100 miles of me.

I was taken to the wood shed by a BIG BREEDER for showing my bull at the time he was in working clothes, "he should have been MUD FAT, because that is what sells, "fat", not that he can stay in condition, "fat".

Hoss, that bull is awful.I would be willing to hide him in these Georgia hills for you. No feed charges applied.
