About this plan. As I stated before I have got my start with some bred braunvieh cows and a bull. I have been thinking of building up a herd of Braunveih cows crossing them with a hereford bull to get some F1s and then breeding those to a Black Angus. Granted it will take some years to get there and things can change frm one year to the next but what do you guys think about this long term plan?

Then I may just go with the braunvieh, hereford cross or an angus cross. lol or start some crazy 3/8 braunvieh 5/8 hereford...... J/k

Those should raise one heck of a calf coming out of them Swiss cows, for the life of me I can't figure out why you want to deal with an Angus.

What the heck is wrong with an Angus CB?

I'll be spending my weekend amongst about a hundred of 'em this weekend.

It is like the little boy that kissed the calf in the ass everybody to their taste.
I dislike the breed with that said I have an Angus bull standing in the pasture. If I have to have any I only want one.

Seems to me there are more Angus roaming the pastures of America right now than any other breed. Whenever I go to cattlerange.com to window shop there are pages and pages of Angus on there for sale.

You don't suppose it's all just because they coined the phrase "the business breed" do you?

Actually Brimmer influenced cattle hold the number one spot with more than 30% of cattle in the US.
I don't care for the BS that goes with the breed, I call them the P.T. Barnum breed.

Brimmer influenced? Well heck-fire, what would the numbers be if you tallied up all the Angus influenced cattle?

C'mon Crusty, get on the Angus bandwagon, we don't bite...much...

Angus cattle are like a large portion of our society can't make it own their own always looking for a fight or a jailbreak.
Can't afford the calves here too many drownings trying to nurse. And if your onr of those Angus breeders that their bulls went from a 1000 pounds to 2000+ overnight ;-) you got BSed.

Well I like 'em CB, I like Hereford a lot too. I find Simmental, Gelbvieh, Charolais to be very interesting but it looks like there are Angus in my fugure.

Buy you a trailer load of em that's what makes the world go round.Just don't try to convince the world that this is the only breed of cattle.

You need to get yourself some counselling. Call a shrink. You aint having a nervous breakdown are ya?

I chose not to point that out backhoe but I'm glad you picked up on it.

CB, I'm not trying to convince the world of anything. I'm just stating a personal preference for the number one breed in the good old US of A.

Angus is what you see on the menus in all the stores or resturants

More like any cow colored black who has an ancient ancester that was an angus is what you see on the menus. A marketing ploy done right is what it is. Angus people just thought of it first and it paid off huge.

I think I will use a Hereford < like them more than angus lol > on my Braunveih cows and have some brown white face F1's.

He aint long for here, and yes I need counseling. Soon as I find the right Brangus that I like he is moving in and I am starting up the Registered Super Baldie association. Thats where the money is at in collecting fees.

And to remark about Angus on the menu 99% of the people making that menu wouldn't know an Angus from a Musk Ox.
Holstien can be marketed as Angus just needs 51 % black hide.

"Holstien can be marketed as Angus just needs 51 % black hide." I think it has to grade choice also for CAB.

It still makes me laugh that one of my registered Red Angus cannot be called "Certified Angus Beef" even if it grades prime, but one of my registered black Sim's can be called " Certified Angus Beef" if it just grades choice. So much for truth in advertising.

After this summer, I think you will see producers look at using more red or yellow cows for heat adaptation. They can do like Caustic and use a black bull for black calves.

From my personal observation at several EastTexas sales, the yellow calves bring as much or more per pound than black ones.
