hi guys I have had a calf come in whom had a hard birth.... she is a really big calf and I don't wanna lose but I'm in need of help .....
her head was out of her mum along time before they where giving help her face and tongue had massive swelling... I treated her and helped as best I could she is 3 days old and I'm really trying to keep her however she has not been able to stand until her 3rd day and that was with my help....
her front right leg still can not stand straight and the muscle is very weak ...her shoulder doesn't look right what can I do ... any ideas I have until the weekend to show that she worth fighting for ...or she will be put down This is the biggest calf I had in yer ideas

Get a shot of selenium and dex from your vet. The selenium should help with the muscle and the dex will help with the swelling. Are you tube feeding it or can she suck, bottle or cow?

I have been giving her medacam as a anti inflammatory...
I was tubing her but today I got her to the feeder and just lower it to her height on the ground

And keep it out of the weather. Hot sun or rain will just make it more miserable

I've had some take a week to get their legs under them enough to stand and nurse and travel with its mother. But never had any with a tongue so bad that it lasted more than a few days to get sucking.

There was a picture on here in the spring of a calf with a huge tongue, wonder how it turned out?

The metacam may work for minor stuff but Dex is a serious drug for serious problems.

Is it something that the milker would have in the shed
and how.much would u recken 4 the calf and how long of a course is recommend please

He may, it's not that unusual to have around. It's given by weight and the directions will be on the bottle or on the insert of the packaging.

Never had a calf with a swollen tongue for that long but when we have hard deliveries/swollen tongues I generally give a shot of Banamine (FluMeglumine) for pain & swelling (like taking an Aleve or Ibuprofin) along with a shot of Vitamin B Complex for energy. Have had a couple calves that have bowed legs or just don't have the strength to stand on their own and I usually just get them up periodically throughout the day & they generally either develop the strength or grow out of it. Good luck, I'd hate for you to have to put her down.

I again look quick question not about cows ..
I have a lamb for calve club for my boy 4 days she has been drinking ..
today she has not wanted anything she is breathing heavy and has cold mouth ny ideas for me pleaSe

Ok assume this is a young nursing lamb. I hate to be the one to tell you this. But you don't want me to lie to you. A lamb with those symptoms seldom make it. You can try a feeding tube. And antibiotics. every now and then you can pull one through.
