What bull would you put with brangus cows

I have a six brangus cows and was wondering what kind of bull you would put with them to make the best calfs. They were bred to a herford bull when I got them and they all had good calfs that are really growing fast. I was just wondering what would have the same fast growth but give me black calves so I might get a little more when I sell.

They won't give you blacks, but I run Char bulls and you just can't beat the growth, they sell very well here. I would entertain Gelbvieh, but have no experience with them, the Chars are strictly a terminal cross for me.

I"m assuming you want calves that are ALL black.. Right??? Bred them to an angus. Will knock a bit of the ear off them and still have a very growthy calf. (Ultra-Black)....or you can always just breed them to a brangus bull but only if you are hoping for some replacements. Personally I'd keep breeding to a polled hereford.

I agree TB for our market.
It's hard to beat super baldies.
When I quit building the herd, it'll be hereford as terminal bulls covering my brangus gals.
 
As several have mentioned, you can use a Hereford (horned or polled - your preference). This makes a super baldy and will top the market at the sale barn.

With the race to make all cattle black, I am not seeing the premium for solid black calves that was prevalent 3 to 4 years ago. I am seeing good cattle of all colors bring more than than inferior muscled cattle or cattle with no indicators of growth. Odd colored cattle or spotted cattle still get discounted.

I like the Hereford ideal myself...but if in the deep south maybe a braford..You will keep the 3/8 % brimmer , 5/16 hereford and 5/16 angus.. should be mostly black white face..

If further north , a good Black Angus Bull....or your Black Brangus to keep the girls all the same....But do like the Hereford ideal....

that makes one of the best terminal cross's ive seen,, but id like to see how the cows are made before id recommend going back with brangus

Myself, I'd only go brangus IF the cows were of the quality to produce potential replacement heifers. When I sell purebred brangus that I'm culling I always feel like I get docked a bit if the ear is a bit excessive.

there are some brangus and brangus type cows out there that would benefit from something with less ear,, some just dont have the depth or muscling and to much leather... that like TBRED said a angus or A+ would work better for replacements.. so without seeing them? he might buy a brangus bull that would only compound problems
 
I am new to the cattle business and breeding game so I asked as many people as I could about what type of bull to buy and settled on a Char bull that is out of a line known for working and getting on by with little no pampering. He is 22 months old in the picture.

Huge ears on a several of those calves tho. Post a pic of the bull...Can't see much of the cows but looks like mix of angus and brangus.
 
Yeah I really don't mind the ear but the charolais bull should clean all that up. These pictures should show the mommas a little more, I don't have a picture of the brangus bull unfortunately but he has was your typical 1600lbs type brangus bull that came out of Georgia.

The charolais bull I bought out of south Texas from a man known for producing hearty type bulls that can perform under harder than normal conditions. I expect him to really grow this spring with good grass to eat, I don't want to ever have to cube him to keep his condition up. The pictures of them eating cubes is a once a week treat they get to keep them cube broke.

From what I can see "I like those brangus ladies"....doggone you can find a better bull tho...just my two cents worth.
 
I am new to this so I would welcome to hear what it is you don't like about the bull. I know he is thin and ugly now but I have seen and heard nothing but good things about these bulls once they have a spring and summer on good grass and the calves they produce have been really nice. He hadn't ever even seen a hay bale until the day before the picture was taken. If is something about the way he is built I would like to hear it so I could learn.
