Have this Senepol that has devolped these sores on her belly and rump. They are round in nature, I have caught her scratching them on whatever she can find. She has had them for a little while, couple months, and recently seem to appear to be getting worse (as in more of them). The overall size of the sores have remained the same. I will be worming and treating for flys this week so, I would like to try and fix this at the same time. Any Ideas?

Could that be fly strike (myiasis)? I had a cow with a sore like that during the summer and I put Nolvasan ointment on it twice a day. It finally went away, but it took a long time (and I don't know if the Nolvasan had anything to do with it). Being as you're in Florida and still have flies happening there, maybe that's what it is? Perhaps there's a topical thing for flies that could be put around the sore as well, but I'd have to explore those options.

Worm a month earlier. Seems to knock the flies back. Also put out a fly rub. That makes the biggest difference

The sores? Will they just go away when the flies are minimized? Should I apply anything to the sores, if so what?

Gale, Thanks for your response, just looking for some more options. I wont be able to catch her twice a day.

try spraying with red-cote or blue-cote, helps keep it covered or try pine tar. Keeps flies off of sores for sheep.

If anything just put some iodine in a squirt bottle and spray the sores. Other than that they should heal without issue unless her immune system is weakened

It has been at least 10 yrs since i had dairy cows but used to get similar looking sores occasionally on heifers or fresh cows where there udders where rubbing their inner legs and it would become irritated and then some kind of mite would get in there and it would get super nasty and smell absolutely horrid. I can't remember the name of the miticide i used but i remember it was very hard to get cleared up. Could be something totally different too. just my 2 cents

Nope not organic here. But, if I could learn to market as such and make more profit, I think I would give it a try. Not a greenie at all.

Well, 24 hrs later and no flies. Hopefully I can keep them that way till it gets good and cold here. Going to catch here up again in a day or three and treat her again with the iodine.

If the iodine doesn't do like you want try some vetericyn. We use it on cows, goats, and horses. After a few days everything is healed up. :2cents:
