What a difference one year makes

Simbrahs are on the bigger side by nature. He will make the sale at our county show....probably only 3 american steers.
Will he be completely finished? I don't know. In the last month we started him on feed and today started adding oil to his feed. Our show pays up to 1350 lbs. He has done well at the little show with 5 or 6 steers in his class. He is not great, but homegrown is definitely cheaper than buying one.
We were going to keep him to eat, but the boys stated they just can't eat him. He can be certified as organic beef. I hope he is tasty for the buyers.

I like him. He would do really well here, except our steers get penalised on the carcass judging if they have indicus content.

Looks like a real nicely muscled steer.
I don't think he looks exceptionally big.
I am a little confused, did you mean you just started feeding him grain this past month and he is 1 year old now? When is your fair? It would have been a lot easier to put on finish if he had been started on grain shortly after weaning (if cow raised him). Although, he looks real good if he hadn't received grain til now.

The dam raised both calves with no problems. The calves weaned at 6 months with at 598 lbs heifer and 680 lb bull calf. The bulls weight was below average, but acceptable.

We didn't put him on feed because we thought we going to put him in our freezer him before my 16 & 18 year boys decided that they just couldn't eat him. He is one big ole pet. If we were going to put him in our freezer, we need the beef until June or July. So, we had more time. This year we had a excellent grass and all of our cows did great on pasture.
He is gaining about 2.5 to 3.5 lbs a day. This week my son began adding soybean oil to his feed. We will have to weigh him next week to see if it made any difference on the daily gain. My son will be at a little disadvantage since we didn't implant him. I think he will be okay. He does have some cover.
