What a difference a year can make

Last year this barn was empty. I finished the year out with three rolls of hay to spare and that was after I tossed the towel in and culled till it hurt. Unlike last year's rice krispy pastures, rains seem to be blessing us and the pastures are on the mend. The girls don't seem to care about the pastures as they must be finding plenty to eat in the woods as I still haven't caught more than a glimpse of them in the pastures for last few weeks. (I guess I still have cows :???: )

I remember ranting about the cost of fertilizer last year but I don't think anything could prepare me for what the powers that be had in store for us this year. It sure is amazing to me the difference a year can make.

Nice hay barn and plenty of hay. That hay will be worth $100 a roll this fall.

i told you that if you could hang on an make it through the drought.that when it started raining youd get more than enough rain.to makeup for what you lost in the drought.now you have more rain then you know what todo with.im still enjoying the because i know we can get a cutting of hay.

That barn full of hay is money in the bank.

I had about 24 tons left from '06. Was able to produce about 438 tons in '07. Sold 68 tons and fed about 94. So that leaves about 298 tons in the barns.

Going to be hard to sell me $700/ton fertilizer this year.

I'm with you on that. I won't be buying too much at that price. Haven't settled on a definite plan yet but I believe I will spend the same amount of money on fertilizer as last year but will not work the same acreage. I hate not pushing production, it just doesn't seem right. But right now I have hay everywhere and with N going out the roof I suspect many farmers will be planting peanuts rather than corn or cotton and there will be plenty of peanut hay this fall.

I eat peanuts by the fistfull. This is good news.

Jogeephus I'm with you I'll proably be baling more peanut hay this year than the 350 bales I put up last year.
