I want to get a ranch website up and running. I am wondering if anyone out there knows of any good software that I can use to make up a site.

FrontPage or Dreamweaver do a good job. Front Page is easier to use then Dreamweaver, but Dreamweaver, once you get the hang of it, can put out some awesome sites.

Ditto what TnWI said. I've dealt with both. Frontpage is part of Microsoft Office (I think)... and Dreamweaver is published by...Macromedia? Right? Seems like it's in the same 'package deal' as Fireworks (graphics program) and some others.

You can get a fully working trial of Microsoft FrontPage. I think it runs for 30 days once you load it.
Might be worth the effort to see if you like it or not. I don't think you loose all your work at the 30 days if you buy the program.

A couple of free ones.
Ewisoft Website Builder
HTMLGATE Free

You can use some of the software packages above, or you could code it yourself in a basic text editor. You can buy a basic html book, and you are off. That is what I did with our site. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some sites, but it allows people to see your product.

Don't even need a book. Look up on internet html code tutorial. There are bunches of them and they're mostly freebies

Thanks TXBobcat and Dun. I'll look into those too. So far Bravenet is actually looking pretty good. I'm just looking for a simple site and I think that is the cheapest way of going.

Victoria the absolute cheapest way to go. And easy way to get aquainted with web page construction is to sign up for one of the "free" sites. Yahoo, Google,Msn all allow you free tools and bandwidth. The only thing is it's not a lot and won't support very many "looks" per day.

Don't be surprised if it won't open. It's easy to time out for the day.
This way may not Git-R-Done
but it will get your feet wet

In many cases the cost of creating the wbsite is minor compared to finding someone that will host the site.
