Weaning

When we weaned the calves, and i chose my steer was about 750 pounds.

I have holstein calves and i wean them when their about 450lbs. I just up their grain and hay then lessen the milk so they are still full and happy.

It all depends on the size of the calf but our calves normally weigh anywhere from 550-700 lbs. We get them in mid-October and by the end of January, they weigh 850-1000 lbs.

Pretty big animal - might hurt your overall gain - or your daily rate.

If I think I'm going to break one, I'll wean them early, like 450 or so. I'm getting too old to wrestle those big ones around!
