Weaning off a fat butcher heifer ?

I have a simi-angus heifer who is finishing on grass this summer, but her calf is not so hot... Calf is a month old and she is headed for the locker plant. :cowboy:

What is a good age to pull, or perhaps wean, a calf who is not getting much milk ?

start the calf on creep feed and as soon as she really takes to the creep feed wean and continue to creep feed.
