Has anyone had success with the electronic softeners that don't require salt? And if so, how hard was your water before treatment?

Which one are you looking at? Lots of variables. I have seen good results from the electromagnetic units up to 10 grains of hardness. I have also seen calcium buildup reduced after a few months of use. The use of these units is becoming more widespread from residential applications to municiple water treatment and supply.
