Water Buffalo at Calhoun Stockyard!!!

I usually attend an Amish hay sale in Crab Orchard, Ky every other Saturday in the winter.
A couple of guys are there who raise water buffaloes and they speak enthusiastically about them.
I always thought I have enough trouble with regular cattle.

We had a guy around here a few years ago that had some. He had zebras, gazelles, wildebeest, water buffalos, fields full of regular buffalos and more. Sadly, the guy pasted away recently.

How much you thinking $$ ??
You ever had a WB steak ?
No but the best steak I ever ate was a tender loin from a 15-20 yr old Cape buffalo bull, cooked over an open fire in a cast iron skillet. 45 years ago in Botswana, aged about 10 hours!
Berry College in Rome used to have a herd of these, and may still do. They would show up at the local sales occasionally, and if someone wanted them for novelty yard ornaments, they would sell for a lot more than the cattle that day. I might get a chance to go up there today and see what they bring.

Seems like Water Buffalo crosses would do well in swampy country.
The bovine kind, Water Buffalo is another term for massively obese women.

There have been attempts to cross them with cattle, but no viable embryo can be produced. None have survived longer than the 8-cell stage of development. There are two species pf water bufflalo: Swamp buffalo have 48 chromosones, and river buffalo have 50 chromosones. Cattle and bison have 60.

I have a friend that keeps about 4 water buffalo for training his horses for campdrafting. He used to have a couple of bison but they got too smart, one would recognise one of his daughters as soon as she rode her horse in the arena and would come and hunt her out. They were OK with everyone else.

There most common use is to milk them for cheese production. The milk makes a high quality mozzarella cheese.

Lots of stuff in their report but no water buffalo.
Yeah, I found out someone bought them before the sale, and did not run them through. They were both so gentle that people were riding them. The man who got them bought them for his wife to have as novelty pets, and he is going to use the cow as a nurse cow. Buffalo milk is a lot richer and has more fat and higher protein than cow's milk.
