besides being a cow dog, my husband's little scruffy dog is a watch dog too.

Mine, the [alleged] cow dog, is also a watch dog. I'm 99.9% sure he went up to the front of the property, barked a couple of times, then sat down, wagging his tail and faithfully watched as thieves stole the copper wire out of brother's utility pole and box, just as he probably did when my welder and compressor was stolen. He's all bark (and only a little of that) and no bite.
I keep him around just to have someone to talk to while he mooches and eats half my cheese crackers.

Years ago a firend of mine had a Lab that was way too mello. One day he asked "Have you seen my airdale"? I said no and he promptly said to the lab, "where's the airplane". The goofy lab started barking at the sky and dancing around on his hind legs, when he would stop the guy would say "Where's the airlpane" and the goofy dog went into it's routine again. The only other thing I ever saw him excited about (and not very excited) was at a thrown tennis ball.

I've got a red heeler that will bite me if I sneak up on him in the dark. He watches my 5 year old like a hawk and traces his every step. I would hate to be the guy that tries to hurt that little boy with Boaz around...............now the other big black and tan hound we have would probably show a thief where the spare key to the tractor is and even help him carry valuables out of the house if he thought that he would get an ear scratched or a morsel of food

Use to have three dogs, one was a chow-lab, other was lab-german shepard, and a english setter. The chow mix would be the one that would warn the other dogs someone was here, and would stun the perp. with his bark. The German was big and looked like she could rip your arms off, so she would hold them at point. And the Setter like to get in cars, so he would climb in their car, and lock the doors. :lol2:

Now I just have the German and she just doesn't have that drive anymore since her friends died.
