Congratulations to Auburn for a great win last night. Only game worth watching yesterday, IMO. New offense looked a little shaky at first, but once they ironed out the wrinkles they came through when they needed to. Should be really tough next year.

P.S. Curious as to how the War Eagle thing came about, since their nickname is Tigers.

"War Eagle" is a battle cry the originof which has been clouded by history. One account claims that a Confederate vetran found a baby eagle on a battle field and nursed it to health and kept it as a pet. Years later, while attending an AU vs Georgia football game, the eagle broke free from the old soldier and began circling the field. Auburn rallied and the students began to chant, "War Eagle". AU won the game and the eagle died in the endzone at game's end. Another legend claims that at a pep rally, someone found a cadet's eagle insignia on the ground that had fallen from his cap and began shouting "War Eagle". Yet another story is that AU was playing the Indian school, Carlisle, whose quarterback was named Bald Eagle. The Carlisle students would shout his name. The AU students mistook it for War Eagle and adopted the yell.
Auburn people are "Tigers", not "War Eagles" as is sometimes used in the press. To confuse matters even more, is the fact that the university has an eagle on the sidelines as it's mascot. But, to answer your question, we are tigers who roar "War Eagle!!!".

Thanks, Mike. Guess it didn't help much. Thought we were going to make a game of it early in the 2nd half, but couldn't hold onto the dang ball. Can't do that against a good team. Then had a couple of bounces go against us and things just kind of snowballed from there.

Sure could see the difference in depth and experience. Our youth showed when things got tough. But then that's the good news, too. We're young, there's more coming, and we'll be back. We're just not up to that elite level yet, but we're headed in the right direction. I'm already looking forward to next year.
