Does anyone have any experience or know and good or bad things about the XL model rollers?

Dad has one and a friend had one, both bought new. I've ran Dad's, it is prone to plugging in damp hay. My old L baler is a whole lot better baler than the XL. On another note, the L is also more baler than the 604M that I just bought at the moment!

Service stinks for the small guy at John Deere around here. The row croppers have the money and the dealerships cater to them, and rightfully so.
I have a Vermeer 505I and 505M. The secret to these balers baling good is good pickup teeth and the angle set right on the teeth as that is what starts the bale. Once the teeth gets age/use on them you have to reset the angle as they want start a bale as good. If good pickup teeth, the angle properly set any Vermeer open throat baler from the "I" baler on is boring to operate as they don't miss a bale or plug. I have one I brought new. No problems been good for me. I never had in plug with damp hay. I have plugged it by starting a bale too fast on very heavy windrow. I just give it a second or two to start belts rotating before going full speed if hay is heavy.

Yes my 505M has the notched 3 ply belts with the Alligator Belt Lacing, but the 505I doesn't and it bales almost as good. Do you have the books for your baler, if not get the model and serial number and call Vermeer 1-800-829-0051 and they will send the books for free including the Maintenance Manual. It tells you every way to adjust. Your baler should not miss a bale. To make the Cam more aggressive adjust Clockwise, especially if your teeth are getting worn. Make sure the starter roller is turning as a neighbor tried to bale all day and the key was stripped in the cog wheel for the starter roller and it wasn't turning. It took me about 10 seconds to find his problem. Always start a bale with the windrow in the center. You can also 1-800-829-0051 and ask for the Agri. Division and a baler specialist will call you back to discuss your problem.cfpinz":z35m6i8z said:

Order the Vermeer manuals also they will register your baler and contact with any upgrades, If the baler start having problems look for bad bearings or something else that puts slack in the belts. Good idea to get the manuals and adjust everything to specs before baling. Also the larger pickup teeth helps a lot and is recommended by me. Also any after market teeth will fail pretty quickly. Better off in the long run to buy the genuine Vermeer teeth.

I called and got all the manuals for it back in the fall, Vermeer will send any owner of their equipment a full set of manuals if you call in and register it with them, great company to work with. Also, I took the chain off the starter roller the other night and set the clearance on that roll scraper to .010" though it didn't help matters any. I don't care for the design of the starter roller in this baler, my old L has a more aggressive one.
I'm anxious to try the new belts in it, and will likely replace the smaller diameter teeth in the pickup this fall/winter when I get around to it. There's no reason this baler shouldn't be as reliable as my old L, anything less and I'm not going to be satisfied with it.

Check your bearings on the "tension rollers" these are the 2 rollers on my 505I that move up and down as the bale gets larger. Mine eat the bearing and wore shaft down and was giving me fits trying to start the roll! Good luck!!

Rolled hay for the first time tonight baler done a great job. Only problem is that with the auto tie with the monitor the end wraps are to far from the end. How do I adjust that?
I am not sure which monitor you have. If you have the books for your baler they will tell or you could call your local Vermeer dealer. My 505M you just press/hold dpwn the button and push the arrow up or down to increase or decrease end wraps.pricefarm":2qiua729 said:

I have the accu tie. The number of end wraps is good there just to far from the end
My M has a mechanical stop on the right side, and a guide finger on the left which I removed-never used the twine tie on this machine. Dad's XL has no monitor and is manual tie, so I'm not familiar with your baler.
