Is it alright and worth suplimenting feeding hay with Broccoli and cauliflower stalks for cattle feed?
Hay is getting low and i have the opportunity to get truck loads of the vegetable trimmings.
I was thinking of bringing in a ton or two a week in addition to feeding hay to make it through the winter. Feeding 16 angus cow/calves.

Thanks

Certainly won't hurt them. They will be pretty high moisture content but when fed along with hay you can use them to stretch your hay out.

At that price the only question is can you afford not to do it?

Just be careful to monitor size of the trimmings to make sure they don't pose a choking hazard.
You'd be amazed how big of a turnip they can eat without a problem!

we lost a cow to choking on a potato.. biggest problem is when they're hogs and get 4 in their mouth and one goes down the wrong pipe
stalks of whatever shouldn't pose a problem though.. apples, potatoes, those are more dangerous
