During the 60's & 70's when I was growing up most farmers/cattlemen had a couple of milk cows (Jersey or Guernsey) they milked for fresh milk and butter. The calves generated from these cows were always sold when they weighed 180-250# and I remember these veal calves being the best looking animals at the sale barn, slick and mud fat.
You don't see this type of practice/calf much anymore. When I rehearse these things with my son, he gives me that look, :roll:
