VACCINATIONS?

We have never vaccinated our cattle before, besides dewroming twice a year, and it has ever been a problem. We have not had any health problems due to disease, cows have bred back on time( including those "open" cows that are calving now in my usual calving window.) The cows i have were bought vaccinated, so have all been vaccinated once. I only buy registered bulls that are vaccintaed, besides any that I raise.

I am starting to get into the registered cattle buiness and the cattle must be vaccinated including our commercial cows because they may come in contact with the registered ones. All the registered ones have been vaccinated in the fall right before i got them.

We move the commercial cows from the calving pasture and separate them into two herds and put them with bulls the last weekend of february and that would be the perfect time to vaccinate them. All cows should be done calving by then.

I have heard of 5 way shots, 8 way shots etc... vaccinations that cover multiple areas in one dose. I have about 50 head of cattle.
I am in the northeast Texas area (red dirt and sandy soil area). What is a cost efficient shot or shots that i can give to my cattle?

I will talk with my vet as well, but just wanted some other opinions.

Your vet is the best source for any regional differences in what is or should be given. Vaccinating for the first time frequently takes 2 shots a couple of weeks apart. You might want to think about vaccinating before turning the bulls. Vaccinations particularly for the first time may cause temporary fertility issues

OK thanks dun, well most of the cows have been vaccinated once before including most of the commercial cows.

EDIT 50 cows plus calves. OR would it be wiser to vaccinate at weaning? Cows will be bred back by then and i could vaccinate them then, and I also would only have to vacciante calves i keep for replacements.

OUr calves go to the sale straight off the cow, i do not have the pasture to keep 50 calves to wean.
I know alot of registered breeders who vaccinate their calves at weaning.

I prefer using MLV vs killed, if the cow hasn;t been vaccinated (and probably kept up to date, not sure about that part) you cant vaccinate them with MLV if they're bred.
I rely on our vet for that part. I keep the books and he runs the shots. Cheaper then me buying the vaccines.

So would vaccinating at weaning be a wise choice?

ANd i only vaccinate cows, bulls and the commercial calves i keep? Registered calves would have to be vaccinated regardless whether i keep them or sale.

The calves you ship straight off the cow don;t need to be vaccinated unless you want to do the age/source verified sales. Those have some parts that a lot of people don;t want to or aren;t equiped for. Anything you keep you should vaccinate. But I'm a proponent of vaccinating anyway. We don;t bangs vaccinate even for the heifers that are going to the registered sales. Haven;t seen it affect the price any.
