Has anyone out there had any experience with using the ultra sound pregnancy machines? There are prices ranging from $1400 to $20,000. It might take quite some time to pay for the $20,000 machine but the lower priced ones would pay out in a big hurry.

We are looking at ones in the $2000 to $4000 range.

For real early (30 days or so) pregnancy and gender determination we have the vet do it. Costs 5 bucks but since we only do one or 2 at the most and only every few years it doesn;t hurt too much.

The ultra sound machine works great if you know how to use and read them it is not hard. You need to practice with one to know if this is something to help your operation . It takes a good arm to palpate the cow and read the screen . You can pay the vet a lot of money vs buying one yourself . The machine needs to be used to pay for it self and when a cow kicks the unit they don't work so good .The higher price have better screen picture than the cheaper models. We use them in the dairy operation to get early preg and if not they start on the sync program . But we have weekly sync programs and daily calvings .
