First question: Why is that I have one animal on my place that has pink skin around his eyes, all the other cattle black. It is a BWF bull calf bout 3 weeks old and lone behold I had to treat him for watery half closed eyes yesterday I'm pretty sure it was pinkeye.:(

Second Question: My neighbor to the east of me went out last night to check cattle found a calf that could not get up and seemed to be breathing hard went back to his house bout 3 miles away to get a shot for him when he got back less than 10 minutes later. Calf was DEAD. What do you all think of of that. :bang:

Some have pigment around the eyes, some don't

Pnemonia not caught in time.

stay with cattle long enough and you'll see black ones with pink-eye. What Dun said, some have colour some don't.

As far as the dead calf, does your neighbor have a good vacc program? That kinda sounds like blackleg. Of course it could be a million different things! But a long time ago, before we started a good vacc program, i found a calf that was down and couldnt get up. Breathing hard. I called the vet and by the time he got there it was dead. Blackleg was the cause. If he loses some more he might consider getting them up and hitting them with a long lasting penicillin and vaccinate.

I agree with everyone else as well. Black cattle get pinkeye too. Its just more common in WF cattle.
