I know this has been on here before, but what are the odds of a twin heifer calf being fertile. Had cow that twins and need. to know whether or not to keep the heifer or not. Or if it was even worth messing with

we always use the rules that with a mixed sex set of twins (male/female) the female is a free martin and is not fertile.. the male in twins sets we have tested and have yet to have one that was not a breeder..
On same sex births (male/male or Female/female) we have not had any problems using either animals as breeders that i have found in our records.. I did find it funny that on bull / bull twins we have tested 88% of them and one of the twins has made the sale 64% of the time and both made it 36% of the time.. On females / female sets that only 31% of twins made it into the top 75% test line.. and only 11% of female twins make it to our replacement pen..
(to be Performance tested animals must be in top 75% @ Ww, to make the sale the bulls have to be in the top 49% of the Performance test. only the top 25% of females make it to our replacement pen)

Thanks guys for the input. I know this may not sound good but im not sure what the sex of the other twin is. I found the calf without the momma, assumed it was a twin since i didn't have a momma bawling, just lucky to catch the calf when I did. My daughter is bottle feeding the calf and thought I might take a chance when she was older and see if it was worth the effort to keep her. Sounds like a blood test would be the best option.
