Twilight Zone - The Haunted House

For the last three months I have been doing a little work on a farm that has a house on it that people live in. Everytime I would go onto the place I did not feel at ease. I can't explain it other than my guard is up. Something just isn't right. Anyway, I'm not supperstitious (much) and can even be logical at times and felt this was childish.

Last week, I met a contractor on the farm and checked in with him later and he made the comment that "their is something spooky about that house."

Today, I met with a crew leader and he made the comment that one of his men had to be driven to his piece of equipment because he would not go near the house by himself again.

In total, five different people have made comments about something being wrong there. I just really don't know what to think but will be glad when I'm done there.

This will make a good halloween story! I love it! And, I'm being serious here.

You said people live in it? Do you know the people? Could they be doing something in there they don't want anyone to know about and you're somehow picking up on that? Or could they be doing something to make people think the house itself is haunted?

Don't discount your instincts, Mr. Jo...that's what you have them for. If the place makes you uncomfortable, then there's a reason...probably a logical one...but, ya' never know...and watch your back.

When my sister got married up in Virginia, we stayed in a large house on the ranch. The house was from colonial times and had been renovated many times. It was haunted.

Some young child, about 10 years old, accidently hung himself on the front porch in the 1800's. His spirit still roams the house. He is mischeivous sort sometimes he pulls the cups out of the cupboard and puts them on the counter tops. Other times when you lower the blinds, he pulls them back up - as soon as you leave room. Sometimes he gets upset and slams the cupboard doors repeatedly in the middle of the night.

You can always tell if he is in the room, as the tempature drops quickly and you can soon see your breath. One night he appeared in our room and the tempature went from 65 to about 30 in 5 seconds. I saw him at the foot of the bed, but my husband did not. Since we had been told about him, I said, "It's ok, you don't have to worry about us. Why don't you go upstairs and play?" He left and the room returned to normal tempature.

There's lots of haunted houses on the east coast.

Will try to post a picture of the house tomorrow. The people who live in house rent it as they have been for over 30 years. They remind me of the Darlings on Andy Griffith, but you rarely ever see them. Maybe that's what is strange. This used to be a typical working farm with a tobacco wagon under the barn, syrup kettle, old pulley well, fenced lots for pigs mules etc. But there is no life here anymore. Its like the farm died and time stopped - and the Darlings moved in. I don't know, it is just hard to explain.

Ohhhhh I love this kinda thing. I dont understand it...but thats what's cool! I love watching TAPS, but I havent seen it in a while. Trust your instincts...and post a picture! Yay for the unknown! We live a little ways away from a 'haunted site' a young girl was cut up and fed to the pigs on an old farm. (and it's true..her murderer was the first and only hanging in our county) Its said that if you go there at night, you 'see and hear' things. Im too much of a chicken..but one of these days.... :shock:

Here is a picture of the house I took today. Though its a little run down it is not really spooky looking.

Made a discovery about four hundred yards to the right of the house today. In some very thick brush bordering a cypress flat we found a shack with a couple of mattresses and a fireplace.(Don't think for one minute the sight of this didn't put goose bumps up my back) The whole thing was made out of pallets. Inside were two women's dresses and a lot of magazines which are definitely not classic american literature or poplar mechanics. :shock:

About 400 yards from this, Curtis - the foreman - found what he thought was pot growing in a wash tub.(The crew leader keeps coming up with excuses not to come back to the woods - haven't seen him in four days.) Curtis is the kind of guy that if you were going to have a fight, you'd want to make darn sure he was on your side. As he puts it, "I get goose bumps when I get near the house".

I'm be ready to get outta here. Just another week and I should be finished. I don't know what it is, but something is not right about this place.

lol, somebody from over thatta way was telling me that so much weed had burnt up in the fires that the drug dogs were stopping every car that came by.


there i something off about the house. the condition of the home and the setting both contribute to this. i think somebody should go in there and look for Tara. whats with the beware of dog sign? do they even have a dog?

Yeah, that's the truth. The dogs hit on 4 out of 5 cars at a road block. All hits were from cars passing thru the smoke section. As for pot, Echols county is the worst of them all. I bet they will have a higher dollar crop loss than any other county but it will just go unreported. They grow it in a major way there - even use one of the two paved state highways as runways at times.

This is beginning to sound more than spooky...and that shed...that sounds perverted. Or did I misread?

Alice, you read correctly. It is perverted. I'm sure the "uneasy feeling" is not from the pot since we find this fairly regular - the creepy feeling is from something else. A question I asked myself was why would you have a shack like this if you live in the middle of nowhere anyway. What are you hiding and from who. Strange to say the least.

I don't know if anyone saw me take pictures or not. Whenever you are there you have a feeling someone is watching you. Curtis was startled Wed. when he turned around and there was an old man with a scraggy beard and long hair standing behind his cutdown machine. He just appeared out of nowhere. (His words.)

Yeah, I think I saw some of it but I'm thinking more on the lines of Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Deliverance. I was there at lunch and told the crew I was surprised they weren't eating in the "love shack". (No one wants near that thing)

We all talked about this during lunch. The surprising thing is the feeling is felt by everyone and these guys are by no means wimps.

I think something bad has happened here - I'm just ready to get out as soon as possible. Oh, the crew leader didn't show again today nor did Curtis - which is very unusual if not unheard of.

Yeah, I understand about Deliverance and TX Chainsaw Massacre. I was just thinking that in The Burbs a few neighbors had the feeling that something was wrong with that house and its inhabitants...but most everyone else thought the few were crazy...and turned out the few were exactly right. Of course, it was funny! What you are experiencing doesn't sound at all funny... :shock:
