We finally got a little rain- 3/4 in. First in six weeks. So I turned these potential replacements out on some rye. Six heifers, five acres of rye. In a normal rain year, they can't hurt it. With free choice hay available. Last year I had ten heifers on the same place. That was one or two more than the grazing could carry.
 
I'm ASSuming those are charolaisxangus. if so, those cows are hard to beat.

Interesting, Nova. However, I'm pretty sure the lushness required for conception detriment is unsustainable in my situation. :)
 
Conventional till drill, lead _dog. On the same site in Summer, I conventional till part garden, part Tifleaf millet.

Is that one looking straight at you squirrelly?? Sure looks inquisitive-- either really smart or really skiddish... Least that's been my experience. If his tail was up I'd know for sure! Last one I had that looked at me like that with those ears perked up like that, if you even breathed wrong within 20 yards of him that tail went up and he raced for the open pasture as fast as he could possibly run. After he jumped a 5 foot high cattle panel and tore it off the RR tie post it was stapled to (with at least 8 hooked fence staples) I had to have the vet dart him to get him in the trailer to get him to the sale and off the place. Had to tie his head to the trailer wall to keep him from jumping over the side too, and he darn near broke his neck trying to break free when they tagged him at the sale barn....

Next time I may just get the 30-30 and save myself the trouble... :) OL JR :)
 
:lol: JR, when I push the button on my camera to take a pic, it makes a beep about 1/2 second before the pic is made. I think the beep made her perk her head up like that. She's easy handling.
