Turkey season

Turkey season is right around the corner and we have not got to hunt any in 3 season's but this year were planning putting in some time in the wood's .My question is what is your favroite locator call's and your favorite call's? I use an old Primos super slate a Lynch box and HS split v 3reed.

I use an owl hooter for locating. Depending on which the turkeys prefer on any given day I use slate o rglass made by several different companys. But I only use 2 strikers no matter who's call I'm using. Tried the mouth calls but apparantly the sound of somone throwing up and gagging isn't a very effective call

I normally don't have to locate them due to the fact that I have pretty much found all of their roosting trees. I set up and wait for them to fly down. I use mostly two calls. I use an HS Strut box call rigged with a string attached to the barrel of my shotgun....I can't think of the name of it but it's pretty raspy the way I like a call to be. I mostly use a Black Diamond slate call with a plastic and a wood stryker to get them close and then use the box call on the gun barrell to pull them in the rest of the way. A little tug on the string with the trigger finger requires very little movement and the shotgun can be aimed at the same time. I'm like dun with the mouth calls..I'd probably choke on it. I am no calling guru for sure. I just mostly yelp, pert and cluck but I do hunt good spots with lots of birds. Makes up for my lack of calling skill.

I can use a diaphram call pretty well for long distance calling and locating but it don't do much good if you have your pants around your ankles removing ticks when the old gobbler decides to come a runnin. :help:

Of course this is just sumthin I heard not a personal experience. ;-)

I have an old old old Cedar call that has nothing on it. I have no clue who made it.
It does the job gets them in range of the Sixteen BPS since I had to retire my Model 12 finally wore it out, dang gun was made in 1937 should lasted longer.

If you hit the first time what do you need 2 more shots for.

It holds five I have never had to shoot a turkey more than once. But I won't take a shot unless I am sure of a kill we have to few to cripple one taking a risky shot. If you call in more than three in a season you have been real lucky.

Does your BPS have the pistol grip or straight stock.

I sure thought that was a dumb idea putting a straight stock on a single trigger shotgun. Guess Browning was trying to appeal to the hoity toity upland crowd.

I bought one of each when they came out, I hunt with the pistol grip . When I dove, or duck hunt I like my Remington side by side in 16, don't have to prove the plug if the warden walks up on you. Now you can go through some shells on these wood ducks and green heads in the creek bottoms. A wood duck is a small duck with a large jet ramed up his butt it amazes me how fast they can fly through timber and never have a wreck, those big green heads are no slouch either for motoring on.

Been seeing some nice flocks too. They'll bust up shortly to make things interesting. Of course if you feed the cows some whole kernel corn just before season it will make them stay around longer. ;-)

Started to open season a little early a little while ago. Drove up on them crossing the road,they have trouble with wed wire fence when they are excited. Could have caught two young jakes easy. We made a deal on cutting some hay last spring that had a lot of wheat in it. Wheat was to ripe agin the weather would let us cut it. Turkeys love it.
