First truck I bought was a 57 Chevy Apache.
Boy would that truck blow this generations mind.
Starter was on the floor, master cylinder under the driver floor board.
Had an oil bath air filter along you used a roll of toilet paper for the oil filter.
Better not leave without a spare set of point's and condenser in the glove box.
Got 12 mpg uphill or down you could get it up to 75 on good flat stretch.

love those old trucks... i remember the heat in those cabs during the summer got pretty rough with all that metal :cowboy:

Drove that same truck to Montana and back in the winter of 73/74 let me tell you they don't hold heat all that good in the winter either. I like to froze to death coming into Gunnison one night in feb when it was 40 below. That heater was like a candle in alaska trying to heat that truck.

there was more metal in the dash of those trucks then whats in a new one now.. they can get a lot of hp and torque, out of a little chunk of alumimun now..... i could take some of these new family cars a beat alot of of those big block's red light, to red light back then...

CB you had a new modern truck. My first pickup was a 52 Ford. I bought it from a friends Dad who had bought it new. It was on its third engine. I know it wasn't the stock engine because it was a flathead 8. I seem to remember them telling me that it was a Mercury motor. Start on the floor boards. Compression windshield wipers that worked like crazy going downhill but barely moved going uphill. It had a quarter size hole in the wind shield located just right to have water pour in on me on a rainy day. It was an ugly lime green and someone (I think my friend) had put mallard duck decals on the doors. It was a real chick magnet.

Bet you had a set of fuzzy dice and a coon tail too. :lol2: :lol2: Did you oil down the bed so the wood wouldn't rot out?

BTW just ordered the book. Sounds like it will be one of those you can't put down.

Mine was a 52 Chevy truck. Loved that thing. Paid $125 for it and had to rebuild thhe moter. Sold it to my brother. We both wish we had it back.
