Sheriff: Woman Sat on Toilet for 2 Years

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Authorities are considering charges in the bizarre case of a woman who sat on her boyfriend's toilet for two years - so long that her body was stuck to the seat by the time the boyfriend finally called police.

Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the 35-year-old Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat. She initially refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.

"We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it."

Whipple said investigators planned to present their report Wednesday to the county attorney, who will determine whether any charges should be filed against the woman's 36-year-old boyfriend.

"She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body," Whipple said. "It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself."

He told investigators he brought his girlfriend food and water, and asked her every day to come out of the bathroom.

"And her reply would be, 'Maybe tomorrow,'" Whipple said. "According to him, she did not want to leave the bathroom."

The boyfriend called police on Feb. 27 to report that "there was something wrong with his girlfriend," Whipple said, adding that he never explained why it took him two years to call.

Police found the clothed woman sitting on the toilet, her sweat pants down to her mid-thigh. She was "somewhat disoriented," and her legs looked like they had atrophied, Whipple said.

"She said that she didn't need any help, that she was OK and did not want to leave," he said.

She was reported in fair condition at a hospital in Wichita, about 150 miles southeast of Ness City. Whipple said she has refused to cooperate with medical providers or law enforcement investigators.

Authorities said they did not know if she was mentally or physically disabled.

Police have declined to release the couple's names, but the house where authorities say the incident happened is listed in public records as the residence of Kory McFarren. No one answered his home phone number.

The case has been the buzz Ness City, said James Ellis, a neighbor.

"I don't think anybody can make any sense out of it," he said.

Ellis said he had known the woman since she was a child but that he had not seen her for at least six years.

He said she had a tough childhood after her mother died at a young age and apparently was usually kept inside the house as she grew up. At one time the woman worked for a long-term care facility, he said, but he did not know what kind of work she did there.

"It really doesn't surprise me," Ellis said of the bathroom incident. "What surprises me is somebody wasn't called in a bit earlier."

That is strange. I have heard of people that were fearful of leaving thier homes, but not sitting on the toilet. That is just strange. Mental health issues for sure. Both of them. I hope they had two bathrooms, otherwise, I am wondering where the boyfriend was doing his business.

I forgot, the world is a man's bathroom.

I personally have thought that my spouse has spent more than his share of time sitting on the throne, but not to those lengths.

Personally, I think it was a wise career choice for the gal... She probably saved a couple thousand on toilet paper, tampons, and soap. Tidy Bowl man probably thought it was a long term Lunar Eclipse.

My Crowder, aren't you the frisky one tonight! Zing!

Lammie, stories like this one truly excite me. I guess it's somewhat of a relief valve after dealing with work everyday.

I do hope however someone was able to obtain a "Stool Sample" at the Hospital.

We think alike 'cause I was wondering the same thing. Other than that, this one leaves me pretty much speechless.

C that is really very sweet of you to be so concerned with this poor Woman's follow up health care after her ordeal. I guess you have some empathy for this type of "procedure" given your unfortunate experience in the emergency room following your aqua dot overdose. If I recall this right, you referred to it as a "load of bricks" or maybe it was that the hospital staff referred to you as "a couple of bricks short of a load". :P

That being said....Aliiiiiiiccceeee get back here now! :help:

babe, I mean Misty, that was Alice affixed to the Toilet seat. :cowboy:

I worked in the field of mental health, (which should explain a thing or two about my, uh, associations here), and I never had a case like this. Had a lady who thought someone was living under her house. Kept insisting on it. Finally, after several weeks, one of our male colleagues went out there and sure enough, people had been sleeping under her house at night and it was waking her up.

You just never can tell. I have a student now who has a thing about bare feet. Don't ask. We don't wear sandals anymore. :?

Crowder, ya' know ya' always had a problem with psychological projection, least wise that's what the docs told us. I thought maybe we'd finally gotten that "flushed" outta ya', but when ya' 'scaped from that real nice place that your lovin' fambly had found for ya' to "rest" in (that had indoor plumbin' and all the nice ladies and gen'men in the bright, white coats), and we found ya' curled up beside the privy we'd built right outside your bedroom door just for you, clutchin' that roll of terlit paper and making Kerwhoosh sounds, we should a knowed ya' just couldn't take coming home to the country and the old country ways. We failed ya' son! :cry2:
