Trucking Short Breds ?

I would like to trailer some short bred heifers 9 miles to fall pasture. Some much abortion risk am I taking, and is there a way to minimize it?

They should be fine, I wouldn't have even give it any thought.

If you are worried, wait until they are 60 days or better along, at that point prostaglandins from stress have less effect. If you are going to move them after breeding, either do it right away or wait 2 months.

As long as you can load them nice and easy unless the heifer was laid down off to her self or had water bag hanging out I don't think 9 miles is a big risk. Maybe make sure you give them plenty of room on trailer if possible but I wouldn't worry if it were me not over 9 miles. More would be the loading them up and that depends on your facilities and how tame they are.

Load'em up and move'me out. Penning and loading will take longer than the trip.
