Well, we finally did it. Were trying AI on three of the cows to see how easy and well it worked out. For a rookie at AI, I made a cardinal mistake when the day before we projected their heat cycle was going to be, I opened the gates and let them out into the pasture. Bad mistake. I was luring them to the pens via cubes and that worked out ok. They got a little antsy after the second trip in. I should've known. Well, they go into heat and I go out to pen them again for the final time and boy O boy, they wern't going to have anything to do with those cubes or me.UH UH boy. I guess what I'm trying to write is "Don't let the cows out of the pen". Lesson learned

They are smart about being trapped. Never fails they will go in when you don't need them to but when you want them in they will not come near you.

A while ago I had a cow with a mild case of pink eye I got her in the pen and in the chute the first time and gave her a big dose of LA 200. A few days later I tried to get her in the pen again for a second dose, she went two places at the same time... though a hot barbed wire fence and to the top of my cull list... all in one motion. :D

She also throws one of the smallest calves.
