Been cold, snowy and windy. A few early calves coming. Froze a couple in a -2F blizzard 2 nights ago. Save 1/2 a set of twins and a 30 lb premie yesterday. Looking like warmer coming in about 5 days.
Close one lived, first was full breech and starting to stink.IMG_6073.jpeg
Triplet lambs, smallest is the tiniest lamb I’ve ever seen that lived. Girls on the crew made it a bottle lamb.

Heifer’s feed row and bed pack. Most years this is now dry.

You guys will sure work. Everything I see there is work and the cold makes it even harder. The cattle look good and the surroundings.

What happened with the big dummy? I had one this year and tubed him colostrum, ended up giving him 2 rounds of Dex & Vit B Complex. He now nurses like a champ and keeps up with the herd but he's just not right, kind of like a special needs calf.

This one is good now. More raspberries and roses today. Hour between checks, cow dead on her back and a live set of twins. Twin cow had a water bag out and was unconcerned about progressing. Put her in the head catch to put chains on and let her in barn alley to pull. She was gentle enough that I check and found second calf and pulled while she was licking the first off.

Was 25 Celsius here today, water ran and a bunch of our snow disappeared. Heifers haven’t slacked of much and cow herd was due to start today. I tagged 28 calves today Will be extremely busy for next 10 days by the look of things.

When you've still got a snowpack holding over 30" of liquid equivalent even the hill tops aren't completely safe. Haha
We have zero inches of of liquid equivalent in the hills. The reservoir is only at 75% and he is only dumping 5 cfs. Normally this time of the year the reservoir is full and he is having to dump 500-600 cfs. With lots of water still waiting to come down.

According to the NWS the only place in the 50 states with more snowfall than here was Mt. Rainier. We will be snowmobiling well into May by the looks of things. Wouldn't be surprised to find snow patches on the north faces into June.
