With Hunting season in full swing, how many of you have had problems with un-invited Hunters?We have a farm that we dont reside on, and have a neighbor that tries to watch the place, and he got into a confrontation with some guys, that tried to tell him my Uncle that has been dead for 30 years gave him permission to hunt there.They were running Deer with Dogs, which is illegal here.I tracked the man down, and he turned out to be the substitute mail carrier in this area. :mad:

I have had problems in the past Crowder. Folks just don't seem to get it that crossing a fence even if it is not marked is still trespassing down here. Years ago I confronted 3 one day with shotguns on my property. I was toting a .357 on my hip. I was standing behind the door of my truck when they got mouthy I stepped out from behind the door just enough they could see the handgun. They got real quiet then started apologizing. It was a tense moment for a few seconds and one I hope to never have to repeat.

All land here is considered posted, unless you have written consent from the landowner. I have signs posted too. Of course this feller denied the whole thing. I made it loud and clear waht my intentions are if it's repeated. They threatened a Father and Son, that did have permission to hunt there, because the Dogs they were running came right under the stand.

Poaching is a big problem down this way. One night last week the game wardens and several deputies drove down the county road in front of my place spotlighting all the fields. Found out the next day they stopped a pickup with road hunters, as the deputy approached the vehicle, two bailed out and took off through the brush and the pickup drove off leaving the deputy standing in the dust. I think they found the pickup and driver, not sure about the two who bailed. There seems to be an overabundance of deer this year. Maybe because it's so dry they are all coming into oat fields and feeders were they can be seen easier and it's very tempting to the road hunters.

We've had problems in the past with hog hunters coming through and cutting fences to get the horses through. We've never caught any but have had to repair fences and have seen the tracks. We haven't had that problem in a while though, most people around here know that I tote a gun.

We got people duck hunting on our rice fields and they go rabbit hunting on our place and they kill like 40 rabbits at a time. We just started putting up signs and cop ride up and down the road on the look out.

Poaching is a HUGE problem here. I am tired of the number of people who hunt without permission. Most times it's just my mother and I out here ( my husband works in the city) and it can be intimidating kicking off hunters because some of them are real jerks. The best solution we came up with is allowing one hunter. He shoots one deer a year, is a careful shot and just enjoys being out. So he spends a lot of time patrolling our land and kicking off all the ones that don't have permission. Posting signs doesn't work, they mysteriously disappear. :x
No one seems to grasp the concept of private property anymore. My favourite is when they call us selfish for not letting them on our land. Hey, they want to do the work and pay the taxes we could probably work something out. :roll: :P

Just got a call from the ranch hand last week he was checking the fences and cattle he said that someone broke into the house and took only can goods and a few bottles of water, that tells me it was a Mojado(wet-back) we are 40 miles from Laredo. In past years I've been down there sittng in my stand hunting and could see the scrub brush moving and was waiting for the "big one" to walk out on the sendero so I could get a shot at it. Nothing worse that lookinig down the barrel of a Weaterby 270 Mag and seeing a human being looking straight at you! Apparently he made pretty good time after running into me because my husband was on the other side of the ranch in his stand and described pretty much the same guy.

I had this problem a couple of years ago. I put a game camera near the entrance and hid it well. After I got the pics back I mailed them to the guy with his tag number clearly showing. So far it has worked he hasn't been back.

Texas passed a law a few years back that pretty much has solved the disappearing signs. Landowners can paint a purple stripe x inches wide every x number of feet apart on trees greater than 6" in diameter or on fence posts. The stripe has to be at eye height. I've heard of the law, but I haven't researched it.

I'm concerned that since it is not widely known that it could be a plausible defense. But, you'd have to be a pretty determined tresspasser to remove those 6" trees and fence posts. And you'd have to be blind to not see them. I'll try to remember to research it and post the specific link.

We had problems when we first bought the place, but talked to the neighbors about it. They talked to their hunters and we've never had a problem. My property is surrounded by others' land so a poacher would have to walk over several hundred acres to get to our place. The entrance gate from the little used county road stays locked and is close to our house.

We're to close to the city to get any gun hunters but do let some friends bow hunt though it's no real challange when the damn deer are use to eating Susie's roses.

They have the same law here in MO... paint a purple strip on the tree means no trespassing.

As a kid growing up, we had 150 acres on the Black River (no it was not fun fixing fence in the spring and fall because of high waters) and Dad had to get rough with some of the poachers that he meant business about not trespassing as the previous owners did not care.

I don't know if they still have it, but used to be the MO conservation dept offered a $1000 reward to anyone calling in to report poaching ....(providing they were caught and prosecuted) do any of the other states do that?

Texas state law also dictates that the mere fact that your property is fenced means NO TRESPASSING. ;-)

Around here if you are somewhere you aren't supposed to be you WILL be shot at the first time. If you haven't figured out your welcome is not welcome anymore you may be taking a visit to the ER to have buckshot removed from the toosh. If there is a third time you may be pushing up dasies in a very quiet neighborhood. ;-)

We don't take kindly trespassers in these parts. Specially the city hunters that come up this a way. Seems they can't figure out they aren't welcome. Our neighbor shot at a couple deer stands last winter to scare some guys off his property. Guess his brother told them it way okay to hunt on his half of their property....from the sound of it they stayed on the brothers half of the property line after that.

My neighbor's heard of the law too! They have purple paint on every other post and tree on their place. Looks awful! If someone wants to trespass I don't think purple paint on a post is gonna matter, plus you can't see it at night, when most of the trespassers are on the prowl.

For those that mentioned shooting trespassers, you'd better think long and hard about it. In our litigious society today, even if you kill the rascal and he can't sue you, his family still can. And you'd better be able to prove he posed an imminent threat to you or someone else, but even that won't prevent a lawsuit. Even if you win such a lawsuit the legal fees might well cause you to forfeit your land to pay them. If you think this isn't the case then go take a concealed carry course and you might be surprised.

I know we'd all like to live back in the day when someone who needed a good killin' could be administered one with relative immunity for the guy who had to do the deed, but sadly enough those days are long past.
