Tractor gave up

Well, it finally happened. The old Ford 3000 diesel SOS that I used for raking hay gave up. Torque limiter, transmission input shaft, etc. gone and VERY expensive to repair. Found another 3000 6 speed and was about to pull the trigger on a xmission swap but just couldn't justify spending $3500+ on a tractor that when fixed was only worth $1k or so. My dealer suggested the tractor was worth almost as much for scrap as it would be running.

Long story short, I'm looking at a JD 2755. Dealer has two - one with almost 6000 hours and one with less than 3000. They are pricey but I sure like the comfort it has to offer and maybe with A/C, heat and P/S my wife might actually rake in front of the baler for me. :D I've searched here and found no negative comments on the 2755. Anyone have anything negative to say about it?

Now I'm gonna have to cut the low hanging tree limbs in the pasture.

I've got a 2955 and a 2350....I'd say pretty much with any tractor if it's been maintained and not abused it's probably OK...The hi/lo shift is nice. My biggest complaint is having to become a shade tree A/C technician in order to afford keeping the A/C operational.....but a very nice luxury to have.

Wish I'd waited and found a 2755 or 2750 instead of the 2350....More HP in the second tractor would have been nice more often than I thought and price differential really wasn't all that much.

The 5510 is a good tractor but it has somew issues. A/C doesn;t work worth crap and it doesn;t have a fuel pump. If you are half a tank or less and go up a hill it will run out of fuel. 5093E doesn;t have that problem

There are several junkyards that where you can buy the manual trans for the 3000. Should be a lot cheaper than a new tractor. Wasn't most of the 3000's 8 speed after about 1970. Lots of those junked out. What year model is it?

Found a manual for it for $700 but by the time you added all the +++++'s for all the parts that have to be added (clutch, pressure plate, etc, etc) tab came out to an estimated $3500 and that didn't include fixin' any hydraulic problems that might be there. Believe me Kenny, I lost a few hours of sleep on this. I went as far as authorizing the shop to buy the standard transmission but stopped it as the mechanic was on his way to start the salvage operation. There was just something about spending $3500 (or more) and when it was all through I would still have a 40 to 45 HP tractor that was only worth a thousand or so. It's a '65 model, I think. One of the first. It was a good tractor after I overhauled the transmission 25 years ago. Never had any problems with it except the front end sure gets light when moving round bales. I've had to drive out of the field backwards before to keep the front wheels on the ground.

Dealer seems to think there is some salvage value - maybe enough to pay the bill for tearing it down and putting it back together.

I agree, I was thinking about the later 70's models. Parts for them are common. The older ones not so common.
