Track in the road
Like an ancient soap opera that draws us housewives daily.
Pre-recorded tapes that tell of the drama that unfolded in our absence.
The stories old as time itself but the draw still the imediate news of the day.
A sure warning of trespassers
Signs of a friend that already knows I'm here
Baby photos
A warning of predation
Assurance that life abounds in my absence.
Perhaps its time to glance in the dust and make sure that I'm proud of the tracks I leave in the road.
Someone will see them.

If it didn't make sense to you, don't feel bad. My wife just found the original copy, written about five minutes before I posted it, and said it was jibberish... I quit writing about the same time that I married her. :( or maybe :D .
Anyway, I was at the ranch and saw a ton of neat tracks. I have BIG bear working, a few new calves as well as some turkey puolts that I haven't seen yet, a neighbor that pulled one of his cows off my place without saying anything about it, and a poacher that's going to get poached himself if I can get within range of him... And I know dam good and well that my neighbor saw that I was in that part of the country since my tracks covered his going in and he hadn't come back out yet.

I will keep them all to myself from here on out.

I missed seeing the post until now. Not bad. Sure it could be refined. But who among us likes refined? You conveyed a series of thoughts. Thats what counts. Keep them coming

In my younger days I useto track and hunt poachers down. The last one I caught caused me all kinds of problems.
Hope you have a good lawyer and know the local judge or at least his Dad. This country is so great but a
sorry ass poacher had more rights than you do on your own land. Since the stand your ground law has passed
here in Ga. I have been thinking about going poacher hunting again. Just not sure if its worth it.
Good Luck CP, I hope you get'em all.

CP.....

I love it.....

your lovely bride may have many fine and admirable qualities......

but she missed the call badly on this one....

good writing should paint a picture and make the reader open his mind and think and you hit both.....

I kind of like it. You definitely have a talent. I know you didn't just write that one, I would like to see more.

I enjoyed it, the after story brought it all together. It's unusual to get to hear the actual events or story behind the writing. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, all. I kind of tend to think in poetry but I quit writing them down a few years back. It's kind of pointless when there's nobody to share it with. They just rattle around in my head until they go away. It does help me think more clearly... I see detail better when I think in poetry. Some days I couldn't do it to save my live and some days I can't make it stop.
I think I could make this one pretty artsy fartsy but I've always felt like if I go back and fix it, it's like photoshoping a picture... no longer acurate even if it looks better.
I'll share more as they happen since a few of you either liked it or are lying to make me feel better. :D Thank you either way.

Highgrit, What I'm scared of is him shooting one of my cows in self defense. I've got more than a few that will kill a guy on foot if they can catch him and I don't want to lose a cow over it or get sued if she doesn't finish the job. I'm remote enough that I really doubt it will be a recurring problem.

Writing it down isn't pointless. Do it for yourself. You'll enjoy looking and reading it someday. Think of the memories it will revive.

I agree. Do it CP. I have an ammo can full of "jiberish" that I've written. On occasion I'll pilfer through it, read something, and can remember the time, the place, the feeling, and reason I wrote it. Far better than anything stored on a computer.

No so much poetry that I've written, but more philosophical stuff. I would hazard a guess that most would find it to be different. Now you, CP, have a gift. Share it
