Your right about that. I kept going back to the post just too see if anybody had any intelligent responses. Obviously not.

IMO, if I wasn't retired, I would be crossing a Guernsey cow with a Hereford bull and be selling high butter fat milk and while at the same time producing better beef to satisfy both demands. And I have been around long enough to know people who have done just that.

I hope you're joking.

My interest is in someday breeding some dual-purpose cows - beef/dairy, as family cows for milking and meat production.

I was commenting on what you said, not what WAguy said. You said you would like to cross Guernsey cows with Hereford bulls. Given your statements last week that dairy beef is inferior to "beef cattle" beef, I thought perhaps you were just joking. Were you? A simple yes or no answer will do.

Thereis a breeder in montana sold over 600 bulls last year for terminal use. He runs 8,000 head. He netted over 1,000,000.00 from his 600 bulls.

Oh, I think you're confused. There is a breeder in Montana that sold almost 600 bulls in just his spring sale last year. But he sold them for over $2mil. It was over a $7million sale if you included those Angus females they sold, too. BTW, he's on the list and raises Angus

Of course, he also had a fall sale. It was a bit smaller, only 181 bulls. And they only sold for about $700,000.

Want to talk about Gardiners sale? Three Trees? Sitz? I can get the numbers from them for last year, too. It will be factual information from public auctions, not made up stuff or hearsay.

So the ranch you all are discussing is Vermilion Ranch? How are there bulls? Are they liek Stevenson Basins Bull? I like there typ of bulls, the bit larger type Montana bred Angus I call them. Bit more framier and heavy, Bulls probably 2,000 pounds/+? Thanks

Many Breeders Could Get A 7,000,000 Total Sale If They Sold 6182 Lots The average is 1,178.00 many breeders have a higher average the only differance is they dont have 6,000 lots to sell dont get me wrong that is an impresive sale total

Wonder if the fundamental premise of deciding who is top 10 or top 25 is a bit faulty to begin with. From the conversation I am guessing it is decided by the numbers of how big is the ranch and/or how many are sold and/or how much gross revenue was generated.

I would be much more interested in a top 10 based on how much return on investment was generated per cow or something along those lines.

America - where is big is better. Not.

Riverbend Ranch in Idaho runs about 600 registered cows, 6,000 commercial cows and then about another 1,500 commercial recips. Which would put them on those lists if they reported.

Sure not at all what I expected to see. Big producers in Florida and Hawaii and not so many in Texas, Montana, etc. Very interesting. Thanks for the info.
